In 1996 she was struck down with M.E. and with her husband and family moved to Green Island.
In 1999 she started the design business up again from Green Island and now does private commissions when time permits between opening the garden, running the nursery, leading talks and courses at the gardens and looking after their 6 children.
The design for this garden was developed and implemented over 4 years. A virgin site, once part of an arable farm with spectacular views of Constable Country. A strong ground plan divided the space and gave structure to the previously empty site. Planting for all year interest, hedges of yew, copper beech, Eleagnus and Photinia fraseri 'Red Robin' create separate areas and shelter in the previously exposed site. A series of bulbs throughout the year put on an ever changing display.
Designed for an elderly couple keen to have a garden that looks good all year round. The lady is a keen plants-woman and enjoys having some unusual plants.
The length of the garden was broken up with trellis separating the secluded patio area from the rest of the garden. A 45 degree angle and curved lawn lead
the eye around the garden rather than drawing it straight to the end making the garden appear larger than it actually is.
